I don’t know if this is a new thing, or if I’ve been missing out this whole time, but Vogue has been featuring some amazing homes in each of their recent issues. (Remember Tory Burch’s? I’m still daydreaming…) This past month was the New York City Apartment of Art PR Powerhouse, Bettina Prentice.

There are so many things to love about the apartment- her use of color, the injection of personality into each space, and of course, and not surprisingly, the ART.

One of the things I definitely took away from the feature is to not be afraid with pairing unlike colors and styles together. In my own home, I always seem to stick with three colors to a room and run with it. It works, but here you can see the effect of bringing together and layering so many different styles, textiles, and colors in one place. While the couches are somewhat sticking to a blue and pink theme, no two prints or fabrics are the same, and the paintings/ photography are all varying media sizes and colors. Even the lamps are mismatched and the rug doesn’t exactly belong, but as a composition as a whole- the entire room WORKS. I think you have to be quite artistic and daring to even attempt to make this happen without it looking like a mismatched antiques shop- its certainly an enviable aesthetic!

Another thing that I really love is that you can tell this is somone’s HOME. Someone with a unique personality, interests, and point of view. Sometimes, decorating can lead to a place being so cookie cutter that the personality of its residents is completely lost, but there are little glimpses into her life around every corner…
