Fall Colors

Yesterday Nick and I went to Fenway Park for an amazing food festival hosted by Phantom Gourmet. Even though it was pretty chilly with on and off showers- there isn’t much that will scare away a New England crowd, and people turned up to sample the 100+ vendors in swarms. We tried everything from clam chowder to pulled pork sandwiches and there was definitely a healthy dose of people watching. Which is where this post really begins. I was almost at the point of disgust to see that 99% of people at the event were wearing jeans- and the only reason I can’t say 100% is because I wore black leggings. I wish I had taken a picture to demonstrate how everyone looked exactly the SAME.

Which got me thinking, since when are jeans the American uniform? When given the option we seriously wear nothing else! Don’t believe me? Look around. At the grocery store? Jeans. At the airport? Jeans. At a bar? Jeans! I mean I get it – there are few options for pants that are comfier or more versatile than your trusty blue jeans, especially when it starts to get cold- but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other options! Especially this season, because the amount of colored denim in stores is almost more than regular jeans! There are no excuses, ladies! I know this past summer pastel jeans started working their way into Boston wardrobes- but lets not stop there! I’ve rounded up a few beautiful examples of how to wear these colored jeans right through fall-  would you do it? Which look is your favorite?

Fall Obsessions

Ok. I’m going to try to keep this as cliche free as possible. No talking about pumpkins or seasonal latte’s from Starbucks. I’m sure you’ve already heard enough poetry about the return of every blogger’s favorite season.

Instead, I’m getting right to the point: It is 100% fall in Boston and I cannot WAIT to start rounding out my wardrobe with the latest trends. I’m so looking forward to strolling down the brick sidewalks of Charles Street and Newbury Street while on the hunt for brown and berry cashmere sweaters and pretty scarves. I can’t wait to return tights to my wardrobe and am dying to find myself a cute leather jacket. What are you lusting for Fall?

a Colorful Pep for your Step

Typically when I see an oxford shoe, I think of a dark past in all girls Private school with itchy uniforms and mandated footwear. But this season, I’m falling back in love with the style- I mean look at some of these! Who says shoes can’t be just as BRIGHT and FUN as the rest of your outfit!?

Post Winter = Pre Fall = Spring?!

Today I had two very infuriating moments. Both of them seasonal.

The first, was when I walked out my front door to catch the elevator and encountered this: 20120514-113204.jpg

I’m sorry- is that a Christmas Tree?! Are you aware that Christmas was 5 months ago? How is it that you are ONLY JUST throwing away your tree now. (if we can even call this throwing it away- i mean, you just leave it in the hallway and expect someone to take care of it for you!?)- not to mention the fact that in our building if you just CALL the front desk in January, they send someone to PICK UP your tree and cart it out of the building for you!!! And lets just think about this for a minute- this means that you had a Christmas Tree sitting in your apartment all this time?! Were you not worried about fires? Did it not smell and shed pine needles everywhere? Judging by the state of our COMMUNAL hallway- I gotta imagine your apartment is a disaster- and well.. you deserve it.

My second frustration of the day happened at work, when I opened my email to this:

Pre-Fall? Already? I mean I’ve only JUST stopped wearing sweaters two weeks ago and now you are advertising them all over again? And what is Pre-Fall anyway? I KNOW it doesn’t mean Summer (which is what a logical person would think) Wool pants, oranges and maroons? In MAYYYYYY….Who shops this way? Why can’t I buy a bathing suit in July- the time of year when one would ACTUALLY be looking to wear a bathing suit? This February, when it was still snowing, Nick lost his black wool jacket and we went to Nordstrom to replace it. Well in the ENTIRE MALL, there was not one warm jacket to be found. I mean I get it- you can’t have a fashion show one day and next week start selling clothes. So designers are showcasing Spring clothes at their Fall fashion shows so that they can spend the winter sewing and be prepared for demand come “Spring”. But then, in an age of “I need it now” they are pushing the turn around times further and further back (or forward, I’m confusing myself…) which ends up selling Fall Clothes before summer even rolls around. Who knows what the thought is, but maybe SOMEDAY Fall will actually once again be FALL and Spring will actually be SPRING.

I guess I’m putting this question to the consumer- can’t we just embrace one season at a time? Why must I be looking at back to school items in June and Christmas in October? Can we stand on Fifth Avenue picketing the streets and boycotting department stores until they start supplying us with the clothes we actually need?

Am I the only one here? Or is this just a case of the Mondays….

Black and White and Red All Over

I promise its not a bad joke. I’m really thinking zebras are having a design moment. No, not zebra stripes, actual zebras. And why shouldn’t they? I mean, how amazing is this bar?

As you might know, the wallpaper is the Classic Scalamandre Zebras. Formal yet fun, I’ve seen it in a variety of images all around the internet.

I’m in love! Though yet again, my life of constantly renting keeps me from having what I want! Fortunately, as with any timeless design, the classic print has inspired quite a few other zebra items that are less… “permanent”:

What do you think? Would you embrace the zebra trend?
